Answering the call.
My name is Greta Ní Riain and I am a forest school educator aswell as being a primary school teacher and herbalist from the beautiful county of Tipperary.
I have been a teacher for almost seven years and a few years ago, I began to become quite unsettled in my work. What were the children in front of me actually learning? Were they enjoying it ? Was I?
I was not enjoying the pressures of reading books, filling in endless workbooks, playing games on whiteboards and correcting copies. Truthfully it all felt so removed from my vision of education. I was called to answer my own questions and ponderings.
The great outdoors was so close, yet so far away from us all. How did we forget about it? At the same time, I leaped into the world of herbal medicine and my whole perspective on learning and education changed. I firmly believe that the world of nature is where all education should begin.
It did not feel right to teach in a place that did not seem right for me anymore, and so my journey began, the road less travelled but a road of a million possibilities.
I heard about the Forest School Training and in 2022 completed it in Larchill Arcadian Gardens in Kilcock which provide a wonderful and inspiring training porgramme. I haven’t looked back since.
For me, Forest School is the way forward.
The great outdoors are waiting for us. I am answering my soul’s call and believe passionately in this work.
Join me on my daring adventure.
